Why I start or stop a theme is often mysterious to me. Often ideas go on much longer than I expect them to; as I get comfortable with an image, I start varying its color, value and even the medium. Right now I’m developing the Yosemite series in acrylic, gouache, watercolor and white line woodcut and, from time to time, I return to the Microscope and 36 Flower series because I see a microscope or flower that is irresistible.
The paintings you see here are selections from my overall work. Most are available for sale as originals or as giclees, archival quality prints. Please send an email if you’d like to inquire about a painting.

Bases on my drawings of historical microscopes in the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington, D.C. Painted on Yupo, a plastic surface, using watercolor paint: the water flows randomly and dries slowly. These microscopes had a show at the museum as well as at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD and the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
